Ko'a Kea Hotel & Resort Grand Re-Opening!

The Ko’a Kea Hotel & Resort, formerly the Po‘ipu Beach Hotel, is one of the oldest hotels on the island of Kauai. On April 14, 2009 the resort re-opened after having undergone a complete renovation when damage from Hurricane Iniki forced its closure in 1992. The hotel has reportedly returned to its “original Hawaiiana-style” character while upgrading and modernizing its amenities.

Peter Vincent Architects, part of the design team, said that there will be several new elements to the boutique hotel including a spa, pool, beach bar, updated guestrooms and the addition of suites.

Merriman's Kauai Restaurant's Innovative Restaurant Concepts

Award-winning Chef Peter Merriman recently announced his concept for his newest restaurant, Merriman's Kauai, located in Poipu's new retail shopping center, Kukuiula Village. Scheduled to open in late August of this year, this will be Chef Merriman's first restaurant on the island of Kauai to offer Hawaii Regional Cuisine. In keeping with a 22-year tradition of supporting and advocating on behalf of local farmers and using fresh, local ingredients, Merriman's Kauai will showcase 90% of local product in all dishes - a standard unsurpassed in the Hawaiian culinary world.

"Since our food is fresh from the field, often picked in the morning and served in the evening, we provide the freshest preparation of each product," Chef Merriman says. "By preparing fresh local foods on-site, guests enjoy a real dining experience that is unique to our island home."

Kukuiula Village Opening Late Summer 2009!

Kukuiula Village is located on Kauai's south shore in Poipu, off the new western by-pass road, Ala Kalanikaumaka. This new retail shopping center is designed in authentic plantation-style architecture and will feature a collection of regional cuisine by noted Hawaii chefs, including Merriman's Kauai, The Josselin Restaurant and Tortilla Republic & Margarita Bar, along with casual family-friendly cafés and a blend of local, national and international apparel and home accessory boutiques.
